C160 Jaw Plates: Mn22Cr2 Outlasts Originals by 40% in Granite Quarry

C160 Jaw Plates: Mn22Cr2 Outlasts Originals by 40% in Granite Quarry

A granite quarry in the Middle East fitted its Metso C160 jaw crusher with Qirun Mn22Cr2 jaw plates. Service life reached 5 months vs 3.5 months on original plates, cutting changeout frequency by 40%.

Description

Granite is one of the most punishing feeds for a primary jaw crusher: high compressive strength, high silica content and sharp fracture faces that grind the jaw profiles fast. A quarry in the Middle East running a Metso C160 was changing jaw plates every 3.5 months and wanted to stretch that interval without paying original-equipment prices.

Why Mn22Cr2 for granite

For high-impact, highly abrasive feed, we recommend Mn22Cr2 (22% manganese, chromium-alloyed). Compared with standard Mn13:

  • Higher carbon content gives more carbide in the as-cast structure and a harder work-hardened surface (up to 500+ HB under the wearing face).
  • Chromium refines the carbides, improving resistance to the grinding abrasion that granite produces.
  • Core toughness stays high, so the plates resist cracking even with large, hard feed boulders.

Mn13 remains the right choice for medium-impact applications like limestone; the extra alloy in Mn22Cr2 pays for itself when the feed is hard and abrasive.

Profile confirmation before production

The quarry sent photos and overall dimensions of their worn C160 fixed and swing plates. We drafted the profile, confirmed every dimension with the customer by email, and only then started casting. Both plates shipped together in export-standard wooden crates with rust protection, MTR included.

The result

After 5 months in service the plates are still within the quarry’s acceptable wear limit - roughly 40% longer than their previous changeout interval. At their tonnage, that removes one full changeout per year.

Ordering C160 jaw plates from Qirun

We supply fixed and swing jaw plates for Metso C-series primaries (C80 to C200), Sandvik CJ/JM series, and most Chinese-made jaw crushers (Shanbao PE series, SBM and others). OEM part numbers are welcome for reference.

How are the parts packaged and shipped?

Export-standard wooden crates with rust protection. Sea and air freight from Shanghai and Ningbo ports to worldwide destinations.

Crusher Wear Part Material Guide

MaterialInitial HardnessBest For
Mn13 (ASTM A128)HB 200-230General crushing with medium impact
Mn13Cr2HB 210-240Standard jaw plates and cone liners
Mn18Cr2HB 220-250High-impact, abrasive feed
Mn22Cr2HB 230-260Severe impact, hard and large rock
High Chrome Cr26HRC 58-62Blow bars, fine crushing of abrasive material

* High manganese steel work-hardens under impact to 500+ HB at the wearing surface, giving long life in hard-rock crushing.
